33 Hours of Fame....

Posted on: February 27, 2008 8:44 am

Ok, so what every Vol fan feared the most happened Tues. night against Vandy. Everyone worried about having a "let-down" game and that worry became a reality.

It's not a total bad thing, i don't guess. It sorta of brings them down to earth right before the SEC/ NCAA Tourney's. Plus, they are still in good shape to get a #1 seed, especially if they can play well in the SEC Tourney. What's everyone's thoughts on the loss? I don't believe in things like "a good loss", but this isn't the end of the world is it?

I think the loss was actually a good thing. You have proven that you can beat anyone, hopefully this will keep you focused. I think it could be a useful tool for coach Pearl down the stretch. You guys are in fine shape. The only negative was that Lofton couldn't carry the team enough.... Don't want to be #1 going into the dance anyways, too big of a target.

33 Hours of Fame....

Normally I would agree this loss would help us, but it puts a ton of pressure on us to win out to clinch the SEC. Tough game, very physical, and we didn't seem to be able to wear them down in the end like we do most teams. I think we saw a glimpse of what my be our downfall in the tourney, and that is that our best free throw shooters don't get to the line that often, and two of our worst free throw shooters are our best dribble-drive guys. If Ramar and Prince could hit 75% of their free throws, we could put a game away in the end with their penetration, but right now if they get fouled, its almost like a turnover. . .I understand Prince hit his free-throws against Memphis and Vandy, but his shot is ugly and flat. Those two guys need to lock themselves in the gym and practice nothing but FTs

Tenn, though that was a tough loss, the vols are still in great shape going into the SEC tourney.  It's just 1 loss.  They will be fine for the stretch run.

Tennfan,

The free throws should be a major concern. Many teams have lost in the tourney because of their misses at the charity stripe.

Exactly. That's what i was thinking watching both the Memphis game and the Vandy game. We're one of the worst teams in the country in FT %. We've got to step it up and knock down those free ones.

I think we'll be ok. I believe it will be a wake up call. We HAVE to beat KY on Sunday to not end up in a tie breaker with KY, which they would hold the edge (if they win) with the wins over us.

This is what it all boils down to. The regular season doesn't mean jack crap. We have to finish strong to have a shot at
